In July me and Mr D celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary.
On the day of our anniversary we had spent the day at Colchester Zoo http://wp.me/p7DcmK-1Gd and thought we would make a weekend of it and booked into a local hotel.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Colchester http://www.hicolchesterhotel.co.uk/ which was just 10 minutes from the zoo and I can not recommended it highly enough.
The staff on arrival were really helpful and couldn’t do enough to help. Our room was trendy and had all the aminities we could need including a beautiful bath. Chloe even had a sofa bed to herself.
The best thing for us was that as guest of the hotel we had unlimited use of the onsite health club which meant we all got to have a swim and Jacuzzi before dinner.
As we had been at the zoo all day we decided to order room service which for all of us is a luxury. The food available was great and the service was amazing and reasonable priced. Mr D had Ribeye steak and chips, I had a hullumi and mushroom burger and Chloe had the standard nuggets and chips which come to just over £40.
Mr D and Chloe were sound asleep by 8pm so I took advantage of the peace and had a lovely bubble bath and relaxed after a busy day.
In the morning after a great night’s sleep we all showered and headed down for breakfast. The choice available was great. There was a hot buffet as well as cereal, pastries, toast, cold meats and unlimited tea and coffee. Like dinner you could have breakfast delivered to your room by leaving what your order on a card on your door handle the night before.
Another great thing was that you could have late check out which is always great as I find the standard 11am check out can sometimes make the morning seem rushed.
If you are looking for a high quality hotel at a reasonable price I would highly recommend The Holiday Inn, our stay including late check out and breakfast cost us £141.
If love to hear if any other local hotels you would recommend as we are always looking for weekends away.
